Software

Graphic designers create the graphics and layouts you see in advertisements and publishing - either in print or online. Often these designs are created almost entirely on a computer. To get started in graphic design, you’ll need raster and vector graphics editor programs, website design software and other layout systems to assist you with your projects.

Resources

Whether you select open-source graphic design software or a proprietary system, there are many free or inexpensive software options to get you started. If you are (or want to become) a professional graphic designer, you’ll want to invest in proprietary systems, like the Adobe Creative Suite that includes options like Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign.
