CAD Drafting

Computer-Aided Design (CAD) drafting is an industrial art that uses software to create technical drawings, designs, and schematics. CAD drawings are most commonly used for building construction and product manufacturing. The software incorporates either vector-based graphics or raster graphics, but the output must show more than shapes to convey information like materials, dimensions, tolerances, processes and other application-specific details.

CAD drafters and professionals can have many specialties like civil, mechanical, or electrical drafting. For example, architectural drafters prepare structural designs for new construction, civil drafters prepare technical drawings for engineering projects and mechanical drafters create drawings for machinery and manufacturing.
